Mountbatten Pot – Jan

02/01/23

Productive trip. Me at the bottom, Rob and Sampo up in the chamber. Lost count of how many hauls, all just 1:1 with some very heavy bags. Cleared most of the stacked bags and spoil behind them on the west side of the rift, including those Rob and I stacked a while back. Probably about a third left and we now need more sandbags.

Next trips will need the last third removing and lots of large rocks breaking up to either rearrange safely or bring up. Then onwards and downwards fingers crossed. Already feels much roomier down there, but that’s pretty relative.

Incidents include Rob stabbing himself with a barbed wire fence and Sampo getting squashed by a falling pipe.

Many pints in the Cheshire Cheese. (Rob, Sampo, Mike)

Four back on a snowy Sunday.

The power duo of Sampo and Sam were up in the hauling chamber. First time for Sam down that far after valiantly forcing himself through the upper squeeze which had stopped him on previous trips.

Rob and myself at the bottom. Rob breaking up the rocks I’d precariously stacked on the last trip on one side of the rift and me continuing to clear the spoil from the other side.

Plenty of loads sent up, but sometimes slow progress getting the bag back down as it gets hung up in places.

Called it a day after a few hours after the hauling team had had enough/ran out of cable ties.

Frustrating not to be rid of the rest of the stacked spoil yet, but slowly chipping away. Next trip it should be gone.

Post MBatt beers in the Chesire Cheese again. (Rob, Sampo, Sam, Mike)
