Wet Walk from Hope

20/02/22

The original circuit of Barber Booth, Kinder Reservoir, Downfall and return over Kinder was vetoed after various cancellations and checking the weather forecast – hence a major change to a circuit from Hope. This consisted of Hope, field paths to Brough, then Bradwell, Bagshawe Cavern and then a path across the fields to the top of Cavedale, before a descent to Castleton and a return along the ‘Peak’ stream to Hope. Roads generally were awash with bow waves from passing cars. It was very wet for the whole walk. Combined with the wind it made for quite hard walking especially across the top to Cavedale where the odd patch of old snow called for a snowball or two! Lunch was taken behind a wall in Cavedale, sheltered from the wind but not the rain! Across the fields near Bradwell, the footpath was ankle deep in soft mud for a short section, probably due to pigs! The Leader almost fell into a deep pool en route to Bradwell, but was well fielded by Lionel. David and Lionel climbed the wall in spite of the barbed wire. Cavedale was a stream for most of its length and the Peak stream was a raging torrent!
