Edale Skyline

Five walkers, following a very wet drive out thanks to Storm Dennis, met below Mam Tor for an Upper Edale Valley Round, via Mam Tor, Hollins Cross, Ollerbrook, Ringing Roger, Kinder South Edge to Edale Cross and Brown Knoll, with return along Rushup Edge.

After a wet start, Phil left at Hollins Cross, pleading a rising River Derwent and possible flooding at home. Ollerbrook proved to be an excellent new, to us, line to The Nab and Ringing Roger. Plenty of water at the top of Grindsbrook meant looking for a good spot to cross before lunch was taken partially sheltered behind some rocks. Continuing to Crowden, the President scuppered any thoughts of droppig down out of the worst of the wind by “Wishing to complete the circuit!” Hence we continued past the Pagoda and Noe Stool to Edale Cross and the flagged footpath all the way across Brown Knoll to Rushup Edge. We had a good blasting from the wind and hailstones whilst crossing, and were surprised that since our last visit it was now flagstones the whole way. At which point blue sky and sunshine appeared and we sailed back along Rushup Edge with the wind behind us at last.

We only saw a few hardy walkers and runners on Kinder, so an excellent day was had in spite of Dennis! Food followed at the hut with folk admiring the nearly completed hut bathrooms, courtesy of Griff.
