21st March 1908
The afternoon’s walk over the moors, from Chinley to Edale, via South Head, on March 21st, was very attractive owing to the bracing air and crisp snow. Singularly enough, none of the members had previously done this walk in its entirety, and we were much pleased with the scenery, which was rougher than we had been led to expect. The novel views of the Downfall end of the Scout were a great feature of the walk. A ‘new and difficult’ ascent, of something under 10,000 feet, was accomplished immediately above the Edale rifle range. As firing was not in progress at the time, the only mishaps were those due to the lodging in various parts of our anatomy of spells from the ‘climb.’
